Turnips, Purple Top - 1 lb
$1.75
Nutty and sweet, the turnip is one of our favorite root vegetables. Turnips can be braised, baked, boiled, or stewed, and make a great partner for cream or meat-based dishes. Enhance their natural creaminess with a generous dab of butter. Or lighten up your mashed potatoes by mixing them with turnips.
We strive to choose only organically grown or certified organic produce from as close to home as possible. However, sometimes we are unable to find a local AND organic option, and in that event we may choose to offer a pesiticide-free local product from a farmer that uses integrated pest management on their crops.
From Our Farmers
To make sure you can always get the best produce and pantry items available, we source fruits, veggies and grocery items from many of our trusted local farmers and producers. As with all the products in our Marketplace, we prioritize working with local producers as seasonality allows, and we maintain our strict sourcing standards. Produce and pantry items that’s not available from Texas farmers or producers due to growing region or season will always be secondary when sourcing.
Remove the greens and clean off any soil. Store turnips wrapped in a moist cloth or paper towel in placed in a perforated plastic bag in the vegetable crisper drawer of the refrigerator.
Turnips have edible greens, so when you remove the tops don't toss them out! Store the greens wrapped in a damp towel or paper towel in an airtight container. They should be stored in your refrigerator. Beet, turnip, and radish greens are all delicious added to soups or stir-fries, and smaller leaves are great added raw to salads.
